On this Day in History: September 1941 - Dnieper River Islands

Well close to today anyway.

On September 8th and 9th, 1941 the Pasubio Division launched small scale attacks on the Soviet Garrisons on Shelyugovatiy and Velikiy Islands in the Dnieper River. This was a successful if brief action that opened up the River for crossing operations and kept Soviet troops occupied that could have been used to reinforce those engaging the Germans further South.

The Soviets counter attacked the Italians on at least one occasion but were driven back.

There are three scenarios that cover these actions in In the Name of Roma that are set for Chain of Command or Troops, Weapons and Tactics. For more information, please check out link above for the book and a sample from it.
